The standout performer was Communications Infrastructure and Other, which surged 41% year-on-year to $452 million. NXP attributed the jump to its early positioning in data centre control systems, a nascent franchise the company now expects to generate more than $500 million in full-year 2026 revenue. For the RFID and NFC ecosystem, NXP’s growing footprint in high-performance connectivity and edge infrastructure underscores the expanding role its silicon plays beyond traditional card and tag applications.

Automotive, NXP’s largest segment, climbed 12% year-on-year and 9% sequentially to $1.94 billion. The division continues to benefit from rising semiconductor content per vehicle, including NFC-based digital key systems and UHF radar sensors used in advanced driver-assistance platforms. Industrial and IoT delivered the second-strongest growth rate at 38% year-on-year, reaching $755 million, as factory automation, building access control, and smart logistics deployments drove demand for HF and UHF RFID reader ICs and secure element chips. Mobile came in at $351 million, up 6% year-on-year but down 10% sequentially, reflecting typical seasonal softness in handset shipments.

Profitability remained healthy. Non-GAAP gross margin held at 58.0%, while non-GAAP operating margin reached 35.1%. GAAP diluted earnings per share hit $3.02, a 72% leap from the year-ago quarter, and non-GAAP diluted EPS rose 33% to $3.61. The company generated $860 million in operating cash flow and $791 million in non-GAAP free cash flow, equivalent to 22.6% of revenue.

NXP returned $360 million to shareholders during the quarter through $256 million in dividends and $104 million in share buybacks. It also repaid $750 million in senior unsecured notes at par, strengthening the balance sheet ahead of what management expects will be continued growth.

CEO Rafael Sotomayor commented: “NXP delivered second-quarter revenue of $3.5 billion, up 19 percent year-on-year and 10 percent sequentially, with growth across all end markets and all regions.”

Looking ahead, NXP guided third-quarter 2026 revenue in the range of $3.65 billion to $3.85 billion, implying 15% to 21% year-on-year growth and 4% to 10% sequential growth. Non-GAAP diluted EPS is expected between $3.89 and $4.32, suggesting further margin expansion as the company scales its data centre and automotive design wins.

For the broader RFID industry, NXP’s results are a positive signal. The company remains the world’s largest supplier of NFC controller and secure element silicon, and its UHF RAIN RFID portfolio continues to gain traction in retail, logistics, and industrial settings. Strength across all four segments suggests healthy underlying demand for the connectivity and identification technologies that sit at the core of modern RFID deployments.
