Clustag has launched Tag Inspector, a mobile application that turns RFID-enabled smartphones into powerful RAIN RFID tag validation and diagnostics tools. The app delivers real-time technical insights that would traditionally require specialized hardware or complex testing setups.
Tag Inspector allows users to validate, analyse and interact with RAIN RFID tags directly from compatible smartphones. It provides deep technical visibility into tag performance, signal behaviour and memory structure, making it a practical tool for anyone working with RFID in the field or the lab.
The app features live reading capabilities that display total read events, unique tags detected, elapsed time and read rate. At the tag level, users can view EPC and TID values, memory bank structure, read count history, RSSI levels, phase behaviour, channel and frequency data, and protocol information. Advanced signal visualisation tools show RSSI fluctuations, phase variations, signal stability patterns, radar views and time-based tracking, helping users identify tag orientation effects, environmental interference and motion-related signal changes.
Beyond diagnostics, Tag Inspector supports tag programming functions including writing and editing EPC values, configuring access passwords, applying memory locks and executing kill commands. A hybrid RFID and barcode workflow allows users to group products by barcode while viewing tagged units, and an item lookup mode helps locate specific tags by EPC or barcode.
Tag Inspector is currently compatible with Zebra Technologies devices, specifically the Zebra EM45-RFID and Zebra TC53e-RFID. The app is available on the Google Play Store.
The application is designed for a range of use cases including RFID validation and testing, tag performance benchmarking, R&D and lab environments, supplier comparisons, field diagnostics, and encoding and programming verification.
