HID Launches Converged Credentials to Unify Physical and Digital Access

HID Global has introduced HID Converged Credentials, a platform that brings physical access control and logical identity management together under a single credential. The company made the announcement at ISC West 2026 in Las Vegas.

The new solution addresses a long-standing pain point for organizations that rely on separate systems and vendors to manage building entry and network authentication. Running parallel infrastructures creates security gaps, complicates audits, and drives up operational costs. HID Converged Credentials is designed to eliminate that fragmentation by delivering one phishing-resistant credential that works across both domains.

According to HID’s 2026 State of Security and Identity Report, which surveyed more than 1,500 security professionals, 75% of organizations have either deployed or are actively evaluating converged identity solutions. Meanwhile, 73% of physical security professionals identified identity management as a leading industry trend, and 60% said they plan to increase investment in this area. Perhaps most telling, 52% of respondents cited managing fragmented systems as their single greatest barrier to improving security posture.

The platform launches with three form factors. Crescendo Smart Cards provide a single card capable of handling both physical door access and digital authentication, with support for FIDO2, PKI, and OATH protocols. Security Keys offer portable FIDO2 and PKI authenticators for workstation logins and cloud application access. Micro Readers are compact NFC-enabled devices that allow employees to tap their credential at a workstation for seamless desktop authentication.

Daniel Gundlach, VP of North American Physical Access Control Solutions at HID, noted that customers are looking for simplicity. They want fewer vendors, less complexity, and a credential that works everywhere, he explained. Sean Dyon, VP of Authentication, added that the goal is to reduce complexity without compromising protection.

The converged approach reflects a broader shift in the security industry. As organizations adopt zero-trust frameworks and move more resources to the cloud, the gap between physical and logical security becomes harder to justify. A single credential that satisfies both requirements simplifies onboarding, offboarding, and ongoing compliance while reducing the attack surface that comes with managing multiple identity silos.

HID Global, headquartered in Austin, Texas, employs more than 4,500 people and operates in over 100 countries. The company is a subsidiary of ASSA ABLOY Group.
