Katun Corporation has announced a strategic global partnership with ELATEC to integrate RFID-based user authentication across its Arivia multifunction printer (MFP) line. The collaboration brings secure access control and document protection to enterprise printing environments through ELATEC’s proven reader technology.

Under the partnership, ELATEC’s TWN4 family of RFID readers will work seamlessly with all Arivia devices. The TWN4 readers are known for their multi-frequency RFID capability, supporting a wide range of card technologies operating across both low-frequency (LF) and high-frequency (HF) bands. This means organizations can deploy the readers without needing to standardize on a single credential type, which is a significant advantage in large or multi-site enterprises.

Beyond traditional RFID, the TWN4 readers also support NFC and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), allowing users to authenticate using smartphones and wearable devices. The integration includes support for LEGIC Connect mobile credentials and LEGIC Init 63 functionality, giving IT administrators flexibility in how they manage and issue user credentials. Remote device management capabilities round out the feature set, enabling centralized configuration and firmware updates across distributed printer fleets.

ELATEC also offers customizable installation kits for the TWN4 readers, ensuring a clean physical integration with Arivia hardware. Authentication is supported at the device level across the entire Arivia lineup, so every model in the range benefits from the same security features.

For enterprises, RFID-based print authentication addresses several operational challenges. It prevents unauthorized users from accessing sensitive documents left on printer output trays, enforces print policies tied to individual user accounts, and creates an audit trail of printing activity. These are increasingly important requirements in sectors such as healthcare, finance, legal, and government where document security and regulatory compliance are critical.

Tony Ko, VP of Hardware and Business Solutions at Katun, highlighted the partnership as a step forward in expanding security and authentication capabilities for Arivia customers. Denis Kim, Chief Sales Officer Global at ELATEC GmbH, noted that the TWN4 readers are designed to be versatile and future-ready, making them well suited to evolving enterprise authentication needs.

Katun Corporation is headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and is a leading provider of OEM-equivalent imaging supplies alongside the Arivia MFP line. ELATEC, based in Germany, specializes in user authentication and identification solutions with a global installed base of RFID readers.

The partnership was announced on March 24, 2026.

ELATEC has announced the release of its latest software kit, the DevPack 5.07, created for its TWN4 family of multi-technology RFID readers. The company positions this as a significant step forward in reader configuration, security, mobile credential support and integration flexibility for system integrators and OEMs working in RFID-based access and authentication solutions.

At its core the DevPack 5.07 update is designed to offer faster performance, stronger security primitives and enhanced configurability of ELATEC’s reader hardware. Key highlights include expanded mobile credential support, integrated Bluetooth® capability, and support for the open vendor-neutral standard PKOC (Public Key Open Credential) which allows asymmetric cryptography and greater interoperability.

Mobile and security capabilities take centre stage. With built-in support for services such as Orange PackID, Transact and AccessGrid, ELATEC is emphasising its ability to integrate into modern mobile and cloud-centric identity ecosystems. The toolkit introduces an API for advanced card technologies such as MIFARE DESFire EV2/EV3, and a PIN-after-card option for two-factor authentication in physical access environments (PAC) when using wall-readers with keypads.

From a systems integration viewpoint DevPack 5.07 also offers improved diagnostic and configuration tools. The “Tracer” diagnostics features now cover more transponder technologies such as HID DESFire EV3 and SEOS, enabling deeper analysis of reader performance and troubleshooting. Configuration updates via OSDP (Open Supervised Device Protocol) have been markedly improved, with update times cut significantly (in some cases by a factor of ten) and reduced bandwidth impact. Migration from legacy Wiegand to secure OSDP systems is facilitated via AppBlaster for models like the TWN4 Palon and Secustos readers. These features support faster roll-outs, lower maintenance burden and greater overall system agility.

ELATEC’s announcement emphasises the broader strategic direction of the company: flexibility, developer empowerment, interoperability and future-readiness. As one executive put it “the new DevPack gives our partners the freedom to innovate within a secure open and future-ready framework.” In the context of RFID applications across physical access, mobile credentials, vehicle and fleet authentication, secure printing, EV charging and kiosk access, the update puts ELATEC in a strong position.

Organisations working in sectors such as healthcare, hospitality, universities and critical infrastructure, all of which rely on secure, scalable access solutions, the DevPack 5.07 will be of use. System administrators and integration partners will find value in the extended mobile ecosystem support, the open-standard posture and the deeper configuration/monitoring capabilities. From an operations view, the ability to push updates remotely, monitor reader performance and integrate mobile credentials simplifies long-term lifecycle management of access devices.

The release of DevPack 5.07 marks a substantial upgrade for ELATEC’s reader ecosystem. It aligns with the evolving expectations of RFID and mobile credentialing, emphasising secure, flexible, device-agnostic integration. As RFID continues to move beyond card-based tokens into mobile credentials and IoT-connected devices, software toolkits such as DevPack will become central to OEMs and integrators. ELATEC’s latest version signals its intent to be at the forefront of this shift.
