										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>STAR Systems International is powering a string of Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) tolling deployments across India, bringing barrier-free electronic toll collection to some of the country&#8217;s busiest highway corridors.</p>
<p>The company confirmed its involvement in several MLFF projects spanning four Indian states, including the high-profile Delhi-Jaipur Pink City Expressway in Rajasthan. MLFF tolling eliminates conventional toll plazas entirely, allowing vehicles to travel at full highway speed while UHF RFID-based systems automatically identify each vehicle and process toll transactions in real time.</p>
<p>The technology rollout covers multiple sites:</p>
<ul>
<li>Choryasi, Gujarat</li>
<li>Mundka, Delhi&#8217;s Urban Extension Road-II</li>
<li>Shahjahanpur, Daulatpura, and Manoharpura in Rajasthan along NH-48</li>
<li>Gharaunda, Haryana on NH-44</li>
</ul>
<p>Each location uses STAR Systems&#8217; Titan Pro UHF RFID reader paired with the company&#8217;s Avior antenna. The hardware is purpose-built for multi-lane, high-speed tolling and delivers lane-level accuracy through tightly controlled read zones. This precision is essential in free-flow environments where vehicles are not required to stop or slow down, and where misreads between adjacent lanes would compromise toll accuracy.</p>
<p>Controlling the read zone is one of the most demanding technical challenges in MLFF deployments. If the zone extends too far, readers risk capturing vehicles in neighbouring lanes. If it is too narrow, vehicles may pass undetected. The Titan Pro and Avior combination addresses this with focused RF coverage that reliably identifies vehicles within their designated lane.</p>
<p>Tarun Ahlawat, Director of STAR RFID and Systems India, said the deployments reflect the performance standards required for barrier-free tolling. &#8220;Free flow tolling demands uncompromising performance,&#8221; Ahlawat stated, adding that the technology supports the Indian government&#8217;s broader vision of eliminating physical toll barriers across the national highway network.</p>
<p>India has been progressively modernising its toll infrastructure over the past decade. The nationwide FASTag mandate, which requires all vehicles to carry a UHF RFID tag for electronic toll collection, laid the groundwork for the current MLFF push. Where FASTag still requires vehicles to slow down at dedicated toll lanes, MLFF removes that constraint altogether, enabling continuous traffic flow.</p>
<p>The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has been actively piloting MLFF technology at multiple corridor locations, and the STAR Systems deployments form part of this wider national programme.</p>
<p>Founded in 2013, STAR Systems International specialises in Automatic Vehicle Identification (AVI) technologies for electronic tolling, congestion charging, vehicle registration, and access control applications.</p>

<h2>How the MLFF System Works</h2>
<p>The technology relies on a combination of high-performance UHF RFID readers and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras mounted on overhead gantries. As a vehicle passes beneath a gantry, the RFID readers interrogate its FASTag &#8211; the UHF passive tag affixed to the windshield &#8211; and the toll amount is deducted from the linked prepaid account in real time. ANPR serves as a secondary verification layer, cross-referencing the vehicle&#8217;s registration plate against FASTag records.</p>
<p>FASTag operates in the 860-960 MHz UHF band and has been mandatory on Indian national highways since 2021. The MLFF upgrade removes the last remaining friction point: the physical toll booth itself. Vehicles no longer need to slow down, queue, or stop, which substantially cuts congestion, fuel consumption, and tailpipe emissions at toll locations.</p>
<h2>What Drivers Need to Know</h2>
<p>NHAI has urged motorists using the corridor to ensure their FASTag accounts carry sufficient balance before setting out. Because there are no barriers or booth attendants, drivers with insufficient funds, expired tags, or malfunctioning transponders will not be stopped at the point of passage. Instead, they will receive electronic non-payment notices generated from ANPR data.</p>
<p>Recipients of these e-notices have a 72-hour window to clear the outstanding toll amount. Failing to pay within that period triggers a penalty of double the standard toll fee. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has said the automated enforcement approach strengthens India&#8217;s tolling ecosystem by cutting operational costs and improving collection transparency.</p>
<h2>A Stepping Stone Toward Nationwide MLFF</h2>
<p>With the NH-48 corridor now fully operational, India has five MLFF-equipped toll plazas in service. The number is set to grow significantly. According to the Economic Survey 2025-26, the government is targeting nationwide MLFF deployment on all four-lane and wider national highways by March 2029.</p>
<p>That timeline suggests a wave of UHF RFID reader and ANPR infrastructure procurement over the coming years, covering hundreds of toll plazas across the country. For the tolling hardware sector, the Indian market represents one of the largest greenfield MLFF opportunities currently in play.</p>
<p>For now, the Gurugram-Jaipur corridor serves as a proof of concept, and early indications point to smoother traffic flow and faster toll realization on the route.</p>
