										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia has announced the world premiere of &#8220;Star Wars: The Experience &#8211; A Journey Through the Galaxy,&#8221; an 18,000-square-foot exhibition that places RFID technology at the heart of an entirely personalized guest journey. Opening on February 13, 2027, to mark the 50th anniversary of Star Wars, the experience represents one of the most ambitious deployments of RFID in an entertainment setting to date.</p>
<p>Developed over four years in collaboration with Lucasfilm, Disney Consumer Products, and Orlando-based experiential design firm MDSX, the exhibition goes well beyond static displays of props and costumes. While visitors will encounter screen-used artifacts including Darth Vader&#8217;s costume, Darth Maul&#8217;s lightsaber, Grogu, R2-D2, C-3PO, and a speeder bike from Lucasfilm&#8217;s archives, the real technological story lies in the interactive layer built on top.</p>
<p>At the core of the experience is what the organisers describe as &#8220;the latest RFID technology.&#8221; Each guest&#8217;s journey becomes uniquely personal, shaped by their choices and driven by their alliance with the Force. As visitors move through the exhibition, RFID-enabled interactions trigger hidden moments, evolving story elements, and personalised encounters that build toward a unique finale moment tailored to each individual.</p>
<p>While the organisers have not disclosed exact hardware specifications, the description points strongly toward NFC-based wristbands or cards operating at 13.56 MHz. This is the same High Frequency RFID approach used in comparable immersive exhibitions around the world. Harry Potter: The Exhibition, for example, equips guests with RFID wristbands that allow them to be sorted into Hogwarts houses, earn house points at interactive stations, and see their names appear on a digital Marauder&#8217;s Map. Disney&#8217;s MagicBand system takes a similar approach at its theme parks, using a combination of NFC for tap interactions and longer-range RFID for location-aware experiences.</p>
<p>The Star Wars exhibition appears to follow this proven model, using proximity-based NFC reads at interactive stations throughout the space. The emphasis on choices influencing the journey suggests a backend system that tracks each guest&#8217;s RFID credential and adjusts content in real time. MDSX, with its background in large-scale experiential design for clients including Walt Disney Imagineering and Kennedy Space Center, is well positioned to deliver this kind of integrated RFID infrastructure.</p>
<p>Key exhibition zones include Queen Amidala&#8217;s Throne Room, Wireframe Worlds featuring a wireframe TIE fighter, an interactive Carbon Freeze Capture experience, and a display of over 90 collectible Star Wars action figures alongside more than 20 rare prototypes.</p>
<p>Details were revealed during a San Diego Comic-Con panel moderated by Ashley Eckstein, the voice of Ahsoka Tano. Tickets go on sale in November 2026, with the exhibition running from February to September 2027 before embarking on a five-year North American tour managed by Round Room Live.</p>
<p>For the RFID industry, the deployment is another strong signal that NFC-based personalization has become the expected standard for premium immersive exhibitions.
