<p>The Lumiio product line includes soft-touch wristbands, hangtags, and key fobs, all powered by embedded NFC technology. A simple tap from any NFC-enabled smartphone provides instant access to critical personal information, including emergency contacts, medical alerts, and personal preferences. No app download is required for the initial read, making it accessible for anyone who finds a person in distress.</p>
<p>The scale of the problem Lumiio is designed to address is significant. Around 40,000 people with dementia are reported missing for the first time each year in the UK, with someone going missing roughly every 13 minutes. With an estimated 982,000 people currently living with dementia in the UK and that number projected to exceed one million this year, the need for practical safeguarding tools continues to grow.</p>
<p>What sets Lumiio apart from competing solutions is its approach to data storage. While many similar products rely on QR codes that link to centrally hosted databases, Lumiio stores all data directly on the NFC tag itself using NXP’s NTAG215 chip. Operating at 13.56 MHz with 504 bytes of user memory, the NTAG215 was selected for its balance of cost-effectiveness and storage capacity. Seritag has implemented data compression techniques to maximise the available memory, fitting essential medical information alongside multiple emergency contacts.</p>
<p>This on-device storage model has clear privacy advantages. There is no cloud database to breach, no subscription service to maintain, and no internet connection needed to read the data. For local councils and police forces already working with schemes like the Herbert Protocol, this addresses a major concern around data governance and GDPR compliance.</p>
<p>Helen Jones, Lumiio Co-founder and Seritag Chief Operating Officer, highlighted that data security was the primary concern raised by government bodies during development. Storing information on the tag rather than in a central system gave partners confidence in the security model.</p>
<p>Lumiio products are priced from GBP 14.50, and one pound from every sale is donated to Dementia UK or the Alzheimer’s Society. The company has existing partnerships with Sefton Borough Council, Avon and Somerset Police, and Alzheimer’s Scotland.</p>
