NASA implement RFID Recon Science on ISS

In a daily summary report by NASA on the 6th April 2022, RFID readers were installed on an Asrobee free-flyer, a robotic robot that can be operated by the astronauts on the station or by mission controllers on the ground, using this RFID data was gathered from locations in the JEM (Japanese Experiment Module) on the International Space Station.

The technology is being used to identify RFID-tagged cargo on the ISS to determine that it is there and where it is located. This allows the crew to find items quickly and efficiently using the RFID technology.

Back in 2019 a report posted on the NSA technical reports server documented the integration and testing of the Astrobee Free Flyer and the RFID readers they carry. It is clear the this RFID technology is now being used on the space station as it orbits above us.
