The short version
RFID News is a news site. We do not run user accounts, we do not sell anything on this site, and we do not build advertising profiles of our readers. We do not want to hold personal information about you, and in normal use of the site we do not.
What we do measure is how our articles perform: which pages get read, how people arrived, and roughly which country they are in. That is anonymous, aggregated audience data. It tells us that an article about RFID inventory tracking was read 4,000 times. It does not tell us who read it.
The only time we hold anything personal is when you choose to give it to us, for example by sending us a news story, leaving a comment, or emailing us about advertising. In that case we use it to reply to you and nothing else.
Who we are

What we collect automatically
Article performance statistics
We use Google Analytics to understand which articles are worth writing more of. It records things like the page viewed, the date and time, the site or search engine you came from, the type of device and browser, and an approximate location, usually no more precise than town or region. This is reported to us as totals and trends. We do not attempt to identify individual readers from it, and we have no way to do so.
Google Analytics 4 does not store the IP addresses it uses to work out that approximate location. Google acts as our data processor for this analytics data.
Search performance
We use Google Search Console to see which search terms bring people to our articles. This is aggregated data about search queries and rankings. It contains nothing that identifies a person.
Server and security logs
Like every website, our web server and our content delivery network keep short-term technical logs of requests, which include IP addresses, timestamps, the page requested and the browser identifier. Our security plugin also logs failed login attempts to the site’s admin area. These logs exist to keep the site online and secure, are not used for marketing or analysis of readers, and are deleted on a rolling basis.
What you give us
- News story submissions. If you use our “Send us your News Story” form, we receive whatever you type into it, typically your name, your email address, your company and your story. We use it to assess the story and to reply to you.
- Advertising and general enquiries. If you email us, we hold that email thread in our mailbox so we can deal with your enquiry.
- Comments. If comments are open on an article and you leave one, WordPress stores the name, email address and website you supply, along with your IP address, to help spot spam. Your name and comment are shown publicly. Your email address is not.
- Press and industry contacts. We keep a working list of business contacts, such as PR contacts, vendors and industry figures, so we can let them know about relevant coverage. This holds business contact details only. You can be removed at any time using our do not contact page.
What we never do
- We never sell or rent your information to anyone.
- We do not run behavioural advertising networks or build reader profiles for targeting.
- We do not ask for or store payment card details on this site.
- We do not require an account to read anything here.
Cookies
We use a small number of cookies and similar storage:
- Analytics cookies set by Google Analytics, which count visits and tell repeat visits from new ones.
- Functional cookies set by WordPress, our caching layer and our security plugin, for example to remember a comment author’s details or to keep the site fast and protected.
We do not set advertising cookies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and you can opt out of Google Analytics entirely with Google’s browser opt-out add-on. The site works normally either way.
Who else sees this information
We share information only with the suppliers who help us run the site, and only so far as they need it to do that job. They are our web hosting provider, our content delivery network, Google (analytics and search performance), and our email provider. We may also disclose information if the law requires it. That is the complete list.
How long we keep things
- Analytics data: retained by Google for up to 14 months, then aggregated totals only.
- Story submissions and email enquiries: kept while the story or enquiry is live, and normally cleared out within two years.
- Comments: kept while the article is published.
- Technical and security logs: short-term, on a rolling basis.
- Do not contact requests: kept indefinitely, because that is the only way we can keep honouring them.
Our lawful basis
Where we do handle personal information, we rely on our legitimate interests in running and improving a trade news site and in responding to people who contact us. Where consent is required, for example for non-essential analytics cookies in some jurisdictions, you can withdraw it using the browser controls described above.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us for a copy of any personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or object to how we use it. Email [email protected] and we will respond within one month. In most cases the honest answer will be that we hold nothing about you beyond anonymous page statistics.
If you are not happy with how we have handled a request, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
Stopping contact from us
If we have contacted you and you would rather we did not, use our do not contact page. We record the address and the date of the request, and nothing else, so that we can keep it suppressed. You can also just reply to any email from us and ask.
Links to other sites
Our articles link out to vendors, standards bodies and other news sources. Once you follow a link you are on someone else’s site and their privacy policy applies, not ours.
Children
This is a business-to-business trade publication and is not directed at children.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle information we will update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes will be flagged on the site.
