We get things wrong sometimes. When we do, we fix it in the open.

How to report a mistake

Email [email protected] with the article title or link and what you believe is incorrect. If you can point us at the correct information, that helps us act faster. Anyone can report an error, whether or not you are the subject of the article.

What happens next

We aim to acknowledge every correction request within one working day, and to resolve it within three. If a claim needs checking against a primary source or with a third party, it may take longer, and we will say so.

How we correct

  • Factual errors are corrected in the article, with a dated correction note at the foot of the piece stating what was wrong and what it now says. We do not quietly edit a fact and say nothing.
  • Significant errors that change the substance of a story also get a note at the top of the article.
  • Typographical and formatting fixes that do not change meaning are made without a note.
  • Updates, where a story has moved on rather than been wrong, are marked as updates with the date, and the original text is left intact.

What we do not do

We do not remove published articles on request, and we do not unpublish accurate reporting because a subject would prefer it were not there. Where there is a genuine legal or safety reason to remove or amend an article, we will consider it and explain what we have done and why.

Right of reply

If we have reported on your organisation and you believe our account is incomplete or unfair, tell us. Where the point is substantive we will publish your response or reflect it in the article.
