RFID News is an independent trade publication covering RFID, NFC, UHF and RAIN RFID for the people who specify, buy and deploy the technology. This page sets out how we work, so readers can judge our coverage on its merits.

Who we are

RFID News is edited by Matt Houldsworth. Every article is written or edited by a named person, and the byline links to that author’s profile, background and other work. We do not publish anonymously.

How we choose what to cover

We cover implementations, hardware and tag launches, chip and silicon announcements, partnerships and contract wins, funding and appointments, standards and interoperability work, and research and event news. We publish because a story matters to people working in this industry, not because a company asked us to.

Sourcing and accuracy

  • We attribute claims to their source and link to primary material, such as company announcements, filings, standards documents and research, wherever it exists.
  • Financial figures, deployment sizes and technical specifications are taken from the primary source and attributed to it. Where a figure is a company’s own claim rather than independently verified, we say so.
  • Where we cannot verify a claim, we either say it is unverified or we do not publish it.
  • We honour embargoes when they are agreed in advance.

News, analysis and sponsored content

We distinguish between the three, and label them:

  • News reports what happened.
  • Analysis is our interpretation, and is presented as such.
  • Sponsored articles are paid for. They are clearly labelled as sponsored at the top of the article and in the feed. They never appear as news.

Commercial independence

Editorial coverage is free and is never for sale. Advertising and sponsorship are sold separately and have no bearing on what we cover or how we cover it. An advertiser receives no editorial consideration, and being covered by us does not require any commercial relationship. Where we write about a company that also advertises with us, we disclose that in the article.

Artificial intelligence

Articles are researched, written and edited by people. We may use software to assist with tasks such as transcription, summarising source documents, or checking text. No article is published without a human editor reviewing it and taking responsibility for it.

Corrections

We correct mistakes promptly and visibly. See our corrections policy for how we handle them and how to report one.
