What the rule requires
Construction products will need a DPP reached through a data carrier, and it may also cover data carriers on key parts. The duty starts 18 months after the Commission's delegated act enters into force, and that act has not yet been adopted, so no construction DPP is mandatory yet. Carrier choice, and with it any role for RFID, will be set by that act and the product standards.
Status: Applies since 8 Jan 2026; DPP not yet mandatory, waiting for a delegated act (indicatively 2027)
What it means for RFID
The Construction Products Regulation brings a digital product passport (DPP) to construction products, reached through a data carrier on the product and possibly on key parts. For RFID and NFC suppliers the open question is which carriers will be accepted: that will be set by the Commission's delegated act and the product standards, not by the regulation itself.
The duty would fall on construction product makers, and it starts 18 months after the delegated act enters into force. The regulation has applied since 8 January 2026, but no construction DPP is mandatory yet.
The milestone to watch is the delegated act setting up the construction DPP system, indicatively due in 2027, though that date is not confirmed.
