- Sector

- Imposed by
- European Commission
- Applies to
- Mattress makers and importers
- Technology
- ID required, technology open
What the rule requires
Driven by take-back and recycling. Item identification helps recyclers sort by material, so an embedded carrier is likely to be considered.
Status: Planned under the 2025 to 2030 working plan
What it means for RFID
Mattresses are in the plan because of take-back and recycling: identifying each item helps recyclers sort by material, which is why an embedded data carrier is expected to be considered. The sources do not name a carrier technology, so any role for RFID or NFC will depend on what the delegated act sets.
The obligation would fall on mattress makers and importers. The delegated act is expected in 2029, under the working plan the Commission adopted in April 2025, and that is the date for carrier suppliers to watch.
