LOGISTEED, Ltd. has begun selling a service that feeds RFID tag data into SCLINK+, its supply chain management platform, so that construction firms can see where building materials are and what stage they have reached at any point between procurement and installation. The service was announced on 31 August 2026.
LOGISTEED is one of Japan’s largest third-party logistics providers. It was known as Hitachi Transport System until 1 April 2023, when it was renamed following KKR’s acquisition of the business; KKR holds 90 per cent of the voting shares in the holding company and Hitachi retains 10 per cent. Its work spans logistics system integration, inventory and order control, logistics centre operations, factory logistics, transport and delivery, and international forwarding. SCLINK+ is the group’s cloud platform for supply chain data, holding orders, shipments, transport, storage and delivery records in one place, along with the drawings, images, documents and messages attached to a given project.
The problem on a construction project
Building materials information tends to be scattered. LOGISTEED describes information held across multiple Excel files, PDFs and other sources, which makes finding and updating a given detail slow. Coordination between the manufacturers, distributors, procurement staff at general contractors and site managers involved in a project still runs largely on email and telephone calls, so simply confirming what has shipped and what has arrived takes real effort. The pitch for the new service is an environment where every party works from the same live picture rather than from their own copy of it.
What the RFID integration adds
Tagging the physical items and reading them into SCLINK+ attaches the supply chain record to the object itself. That gives location, movement history and status in real time rather than as a periodic manual update. LOGISTEED says the accumulated read data can then be analysed to establish realistic lead times for particular building materials and to flag the risk of a process running late while there is still time to react, which is the more interesting half of the claim: on a construction programme, knowing a delivery is drifting two weeks out is worth considerably more than knowing it arrived.
What has not been disclosed
LOGISTEED has not published the operating frequency, the air interface standard, the tag construction or the reader hardware used, and it has not named a customer. Those details matter more than usual on a building site, and any buyer should ask about them. Read performance depends heavily on what surrounds a tag, and sites are full of steel, reinforced concrete, water and dense packaging. Tags fixed to materials stored outdoors have to survive weather, UV exposure and rough handling for the length of a build. And whether reads come from handhelds carried by site staff or from fixed portals at gates and loading bays changes both the labour involved and how complete the data ends up being. None of that is a comment on the LOGISTEED product; it is the general set of questions any RFID construction materials tracking deployment has to answer.
Where it runs now
The service is already in use at major construction companies and building services contractors in Japan, which LOGISTEED says has improved both materials management and process management on those projects. The company has not named any of them. Its stated plan is to widen the scope to manufacturers’ production logistics upstream, and downstream to transport within the site itself and to installation.
