What the rule requires
Several states now make an RFID windscreen tag, often alongside GPS, a condition of carrying minerals, with readers at mining check gates and handheld readers on routes. Requirements, tag specs and deadlines vary by state and even by district, so transporters and suppliers need to check each state's mining portal.

What it means for RFID
The demand here is for vehicle tags and for fixed and handheld readers. Transporters fit an RFID windscreen tag, often with a GPS unit, and states read it at mining check gates and with handheld readers on routes. Uttar Pradesh reported in July 2025 that it had RFID-tagged mineral vehicles and set up 57 unmanned AI check gates in 25 districts.
In Uttarakhand the tag is a condition of the e-Ravanna transit pass: the Geology and Mining Directorate set a deadline of 15 September 2026, and Udham Singh Nagar district set its own of 15 October 2026. Jammu and Kashmir's target was 26 January 2026; RFID News reported in December 2025 that tags there would be checked at checkpoints, toll points and weighbridges, though no official notice has been found. No tag frequency has been stated.
