What the rule requires
Every vehicle in Mexico must be on the national registry (REPUVE). Proof is a windscreen sticker (constancia de inscripción) with a UHF RFID chip to ISO 18000-6C, and some states fine drivers without it (Querétaro: 20 to 30 times the UMA). Reader networks and placement have been patchy, so local demand for readers depends on each state.
Status: In force under federal law; sticker placement and checks vary by state
What it means for RFID
REPUVE is a national vehicle RFID programme: proof of registration is a windscreen sticker, the constancia de inscripción, carrying a UHF RFID chip to ISO 18000-6C. That puts a passive UHF tag on every vehicle on the national registry.
Since 8 March 2008, vehicles sold in Mexico have been registered by the maker or importer. Enforcement sits with the states, some of which fine drivers without the sticker; in Querétaro the fine is 20 to 30 times the UMA.
Reader networks and sticker placement have been patchy, so demand for readers depends on each state's checks rather than on the federal law alone.
