- RFID required
What the rule requires
Every vehicle in Bolivia must carry a windscreen sticker containing an RFID chip for the B-SISA fuel sales control system. Antennas at fuel stations identify the vehicle before it is served, and roadside towers with high-gain antennas read stickers from 25 metres. Only ANH staff may fit and activate a sticker, which also carries a hologram and a barcode. ANH blocks a vehicle's record to stop the tag working at the pump: 10,781 plates were blocked for repeat loading up to 18 October 2026. No source states the radio frequency band, the suppliers, the number of stickers issued, or how many stations have readers.
Status: In force and actively enforced during the 2026 intervention of the ANH; 10,781 plates blocked to 18 October 2026
What it means for RFID
Bolivia's B-SISA is an RFID mandate for fuel sales control: every vehicle must carry a windscreen sticker with an RFID chip, read by antennas at fuel stations before the vehicle is served. In 2015 ANH described roadside towers with high-gain antennas reading stickers from 25 metres, and Android handheld readers at checkpoints and borders.
Only ANH staff may fit and activate a sticker, and since 2016 it has also carried a security hologram and a barcode, so the system pairs RFID with visual and optical checks. Enforcement works through the back end: ANH blocks a vehicle's record so the tag stops working at the pump, and 10,781 plates were blocked for repeat loading up to 18 October 2026.
The system is being actively enforced during the 2026 government intervention of the ANH.
