What the rule requires
Japan's national standard for applying RFID in supply chains, covering product tagging, packaging, transport units and returnable transport and packaging items, aligned with ISO/IEC 17360:2023. It is voluntary, but Japanese supply-chain RFID specifications should now reference it rather than the older JIS Z 0664 to Z 0667 series.
Status: Published voluntary standard; established 20 Nov 2025
What it means for RFID
JIS X 0560:2025 is Japan's adoption of ISO/IEC 17360:2023, the international standard for applying RFID in supply chains. It covers each level of the chain: product tagging, packaging, transport units, and returnable transport and packaging items.
For tag, label and system suppliers selling into Japan, and for Japanese retailers and logistics operators writing RFID specifications, the practical change is the reference: specifications should now cite JIS X 0560 rather than the older JIS Z 0664 to Z 0667 series. Because it is aligned with ISO/IEC 17360:2023, it also lines Japanese practice up with the international standard.
The standard was established on 20 November 2025 and is voluntary, so it applies only where a buyer or specification calls for it.
