Avery Dennison has moved NXP’s UCODE X silicon into shipping inlay form, roughly eight months after the chip itself was announced. On 19 August 2026 the company confirmed two additions to its RAIN RFID portfolio, AD Miniweb Global UCODE X and AD Burst UCODE X. The chip is not the story. NXP launched UCODE X on 12 January 2026 and adoption has been building since. What is new is that a major converter now has catalogue-listed, ARC certified parts built on it, and that one of those parts is sold on a single worldwide tuning instead of a regional split.
Eight months from silicon to a certified SKU
That gap is the interesting number. A UHF RFID chip announcement is cheap; getting the die onto an antenna, through Auburn University RFID Lab ARC testing, and into a part number a brand owner can actually order is the expensive part. Avery Dennison’s listing on the Auburn ARC approved inlay database shows AD Miniweb Global UX with NXP UCODE X silicon at 42 x 16 mm, carrying spec categories I, L, Q, R, W5, W6, O, Y2 and B2. Spec Q covers retail accessories and Spec R covers apparel, footwear, headwear, accessories, watches and jewellery, so this is broad retail coverage rather than a single narrow category pass.
Auburn’s database does not publish a listing date on the public inlay tables, so we are not going to invent one. What can be said is that the ARC registration was already in place when the announcement went out, which is the normal sequence and worth knowing if you are trying to date the part rather than the press release.
What “globally tuned” actually removes
This is the claim doing the real work, and it is a supply chain claim rather than a performance one. UHF RFID does not have one global band. ETSI territories run 865 to 868 MHz, FCC runs 902 to 928 MHz, and Japan, China and Korea sit on their own allocations inside the wider 860 to 960 MHz range. Conventionally a converter tunes an antenna for one of those regions and holds separate stock for the others, which means duplicate part numbers, duplicate ARC submissions, duplicate qualification work at the retailer, and stock that cannot be reallocated when demand shifts between markets.
A globally tuned antenna is designed to perform acceptably across the whole 860 to 960 MHz span from one design, so one SKU covers all of it. The honest trade-off is that broadband tuning normally costs some peak sensitivity in any given region compared with a part tuned narrowly for that band alone. You buy inventory simplicity and pay for it in headroom. For an apparel or general merchandise programme shipping into multiple regions, that is usually a good trade. For a marginal read environment in a single market, a region-tuned part may still win.
The “first” claim, tested
Avery Dennison’s own announcement wording says the AD Miniweb Global UCODE X “leads the charge as the industry’s first globally tuned inlay with a compact 42 x 16 mm antenna to attain full retail ARC compliance”. Read that carefully, because the qualifiers are load bearing. It is not a claim to the first UCODE X inlay, and it should not be reported as one. Checkpoint Systems announced UCODE X integration in its smart labels in early 2026 and already has three UCODE X parts on the Auburn ARC list: Barber UCODE X at 45 x 20 mm, Njord UCODE X at 42 x 24 mm and Bora UCODE X at 70 x 14 mm. Checkpoint’s own wording is that it is “one of the first manufacturers” to get ARC certification on UCODE X inlays, which is a more careful formulation.
So treat “industry’s first globally tuned inlay” as a vendor claim in a narrow category, not as an established fact. We could not corroborate it independently.

Both sit on a chip specified at up to -26.2 dBm read sensitivity and -23 dBm write sensitivity, built on the non-proprietary GS1 Gen2v2 standard with configurable EPC and user memory. Note that the product pages use the “UX” suffix while the announcement uses “UCODE X”, so expect both forms in datasheets and ARC listings for the same part. The wider AD Miniweb family also includes Pure designation variants using aluminium PET-free antennas, which Avery Dennison claims cut carbon footprint by 70 to 90 percent against traditional etching, and those share the same 42 x 16 mm footprint.
